In 2025, grocery stores continue to show resilience despite inflation, shifting habits, and rising competition. Shoppers are making shorter, more frequent trips, driving steady visit growth. Traditional grocers have held their market share, especially in coastal states, even as dollar stores and big-box retailers expand.

Smaller formats and niche players are gaining ground. Fresh, value-focused, and Hispanic grocers are seeing increased traffic, and compact stores are outperforming larger ones. These trends highlight the grocery sector’s ability to adapt and stay relevant in a changing retail landscape.

Specialized expands Morgan Hill footprint

Specialized Bicycle started in 1974 and has been headquartered in Morgan Hill since 1984. Although they have consistently grown their footprint in California, in 2023 they purchased a building in Colorado to be used for equipment development and for the Retul fitting. on Specialized said it is expanding its facilities in Morgan Hill and relocating employees from Colorado to its longtime headquarters. 

Local sources told BRAIN that Specialized employed about 50 workers in Louisville who were offered jobs in Morgan Hill. 

Specialized said it is making a "significant investment" in its Morgan Hill facility. "Already home to its Win Tunnel, Research & Development center, and Human Performance Lab, this investment expands the cutting-edge Innovation Center based on Human Performance and Body Geometry innovation in equipment," the company said in a statement to BRAIN.

"The brand will be relocating its Boulder team to Morgan Hill to streamline collaboration and align around product development, scientific rigor, and performance. This shift reduces complexity, sharpens focus, and strengthens the ability to serve riders, support retailers, and drive the mission forward."

EDES Building wins gold!

In competition with more than 675 entries worldwide, KTGY, the designer of Cura Gallery in Downtown Morgan Hill, received five Grand Awards and seven Awards of Merit in the 2025 Gold Nugget Awards competition. These awards represent the oldest and most prestigious design awards program in the nation. The Cura Gallery project (listed as “The EDES”) received an award for the best commercial project.

Is it a winery, a car museum, or a pizza place? Little Uvas Winery, owned by local restauranteurs Rosy and Rich Bergin, is all of those things and more. Wine Journalist Laura Ness had nothing but glowing reviews about her visit to LUV Winery complimenting the quality of the wine, the diversity of the food, and the relaxed atmosphere. Morgan Hill Embraces Clean Energy with State-of-the-Art Battery System

The City of Morgan Hill has completed a new battery storage and microgrid system at the Centennial Recreation Center, enhancing community resilience and sustainability. The system works alongside the existing solar infrastructure to reduce electricity costs and provide backup power during outages, ensuring the facility can operate as an emergency shelter when needed. The project was funded by a $200,000 grant from Silicon Valley Clean Energy and a $300,000 grant from CalOES. This investment reflects the City’s commitment to reliable, sustainable infrastructure that supports residents year-round.

Morgan Hill restaurant selected for national TV show

Rosy’s at the Beach, a downtown Morgan Hill favorite since 1998, is stepping into the national spotlight with a feature on America’s Best Restaurants. The film crew visited on May 7 to showcase the seafood spot’s top dishes and share its story. Co-owner Pam Novak, who took over with partner Vanessa Bermudez in 2023, said the experience was outside their comfort zone but well worth it. Rosy’s was chosen for the segment based on its strong reviews, standout menu, community ties, and social media presence.
