HCD approves Morgan Hill Housing Element

By achieving certification from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), Morgan Hill has demonstrated its commitment to fulfilling its obligations under state law to create an inclusive and equitable living environment. The Housing Element is a critical component of Morgan Hill’s General Plan to address the housing challenges in the region. It outlines a comprehensive strategy for accommodating the Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) and ensuring an adequate supply of affordable housing within the City over the next eight years. The certified Housing Element enables Morgan Hill to maintain local control over land-use decisions and to exercise discretion when reviewing development projects.

The City of Morgan Hill Economic Development Team, Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Association are collaborating on a Buy Local Campaign to support small businesses this holiday season. The 2023 Holiday Shopping Passport will encourage patronization of local small businesses, via in-store or online purchases, from December 1st-31st.

SF 49er player hosts Stay Hungry Career Camp at Shoe Palace

San Francisco 49ers’ Erik Armstead invited (30) local students to participate in his Stay Hungry Career Camp at the Shoe Palace Headquarters in Morgan Hill. Students were exposed to a variety of career pathways while touring the Shoe Palace warehouse, design studio, and mock store. The Stay Hungry Career Camp was created to help students connect their education to the real world by exposing them to career pathways worth pursuing and ultimately increasing their economic mobility long-term.

Morgan Hill Leadership visits Lusamerica Foods

On November 28, members of the City of Morgan Hill’s Leadership Team visited Lusamerica Fish to learn about the company’s history, current operations, and take a walking tour of their processing facility for a first-hand look at how the company de-bones, fillets, and packages fresh and frozen seafood onsite. Lusamerica is proud of its commitment to quality and sustainable seafood, recently investing in a dock at Moss Landing Harbor in Monterey Bay to support California fishermen and the continued recovery of the local seafood economy.

Lusamerica was founded in 1975 by Fernando and Ana Frederico and is still family owned and operated to this day. Lusamerica is headquartered in Morgan Hill and employs 500+ employees across the West Coast. They carry over 100 different species of seafood which they distribute to grocery stores, restaurants, food service companies, hospitals, tech companies, retirement communities, entertainment studios and more. Two Los Gatos businesses expand in Downtown Morgan Hill

Los Gatos-based businesses Enoteca La Storia and Oak & Rye are both expanding in Morgan Hill. Oak & Rye will open The Silos, a full-service restaurant and bar, at the newly constructed 1,464-square-foot restaurant space tucked behind the iconic 45-foot-tall silos, historical remnants from the original granary operation. Enoteca La Storia plans to open its wine shop called Ancora Vino in Downtown Morgan Hill at 17337 Monterey Rd., the current Murphy’s Mercantile Store. Ancora Vino will be a 2,200-square-foot retail wine shop and tasting room offering 150 wines under $25 and ten different wine clubs.

Shop artisan products at the Holiday Market

Shop homemade, custom, artisan products from 35+ home-based vendors at the Sidewalk Saturdays Holiday Market on December 16 from 9a.m-1p.m. BONUS- this event will include a hot cocoa bar by MoHI Farm, a bracelet making station by Luxe, and a photo booth by Memory Spot and bLoom inflatables. There might even be a special visit from a special someone!

Started in 2020 to support home-based and retail small businesses through the pandemic, Sidewalk Saturdays has morphed into a beloved community event embodying the Buy Local spirit. This popular maker’s market located on 3rd street in beautiful Downtown Morgan Hill, features a Spring and Fall season, highlighting 15-25 local makers, between the hours of 9a.m.-1p.m.
