2026 California non-profit of the year is from South County

District 38 Assemblymember, Gail Pellerin, awarded the 2026 California Non-Profit of the year award to South County based organization Community Solutions. Founded as a teen drop-off center in 1972, Community Solutions is an organization that provides critical services for children, teens, adults, and families who are facing times of crisis. Their mission is to create opportunities for positive change by promoting and supporting the full potential of individuals, the strengths of families, and the well-being of the community. The services and support they provide address a wide range of situations from mental health and substance use challenges to domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

Pedals not pills

Pedals not pills

The philanthropic work of Morgan Hill based company Specialized Bicycle is carried out through a partnership with OUTRIDE, a nonprofit organization focused on improving youth health and well-being through cycling. OUTRIDE started 13-years ago with an initial focus on medical research to find a correlation between cycling and enhanced cognitive health. Since that time, programs and initiatives have been introduced into schools and over 50,000 youth have participated. The organization’s motto is “pedals not pills,” driving home the message that cycling can promote positive physical and mental capabilities without the use of pharmaceuticals.

Specialized Bicycle was one of five recipients of the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s Beyond the Check Awards, receiving the award in the Health category. The awards honor companies that dedicate time, talent, technology and funding to support nonprofit partners.

Running for a cause

Buy a floral shirt and dust off your sneakers as you prepare to walk, jog, or run during the annual Wildflower 2K/5K/10K event on Sunday March 30. This year marks the 42nd anniversary of the run and the first time offering a Kids' 2K Run (ages 5-11) and "all inclusive, non-competitive" 2K Fun Run/Walk (ages 2-102). Organized by the Morgan Hill Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the run continues to be one of the few non-profit, 100% volunteer-run events in the state of California. All proceeds from the Wildflower Run fund scholarships and leadership programs for women & girls, as well as community grants.

The Morgan Hill Branch of AAUW was chartered in 1981, has over 170 members and–especially for its size–is one of the most active and successful branches in the country. Learn more about AAUW and the Wildflower Run HERE.
