Locals in the spotlight at Poppy Jasper International Film Festival

By Brittney Sherman

The Poppy Jasper International Film Festival, named one of Movie Maker Magazine’s “25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World,” returns to South Valley next week with a surge of locally produced films. Festival Director Mattie Scariot says submissions from nearby creators reached new heights, forcing organizers to make tough calls on which to include. This marks the first festival since 2019, when a tragic shooting killed three people and wounded 17 others.

Her father, Charles LeFranc, launched Almaden Wine Company, once the country’s largest wine producer, and jump-started Masson’s career. Today, women in Morgan Hill and Gilroy continue that legacy by owning and managing wineries, crafting the wines, and shaping the stories behind each bottle.
