Similar to the State (-2.5%), County (-2.8%), and Bay Area (-4.9%) sales tax results, Morgan Hill’s 4th quarter numbers were also down year-over-year. This decrease is mainly contributed to a 21% decline in the food and drug group, a 4.1% decline in the auto and transportation group, and fluctuating prices of fuel and building materials. Founded in 2000 as a family-owned broadband bioscience business, Aragen Bioscience leased their first building in Morgan Hill in 2004. Twelve years later, the company expanded into a 27,000 sq.ft. and 15,000 sq.ft. building, both of which they continue to reside in today. Serving primarily other Biotech and Pharma companies, their services consist of contracted research requiring the use of Aragen as a primary or supplementary laboratory research contractor. They employ 70 highly educated and skilled workers, and although they are currently fully staffed, they will require additional employees as their footprint in Morgan Hill continues to grow.
