Popular trail expands by 3,600 acres

With 87,000 acres at Henry Coe State Park and an additional 58 trails covering 585 miles, Morgan Hill has already become a preferred location for hiking and biking enthusiasts alike. The Conservation Fund’s recent purchase of the Richmond Ranch will expand the existing Bay Area Trail more than 3,600 acres. This land acquisition will act as a bridge, connecting the East Foothills, Coyote Valley, and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Upon approval by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, the Santa Clara County Department of Parks will be handed the land, which they will co-manage alongside Valley Habitat Agency.

Business Spotlight: Creative Manufacturing Solutions

Tim Herlihy founded Creative Manufacturing Solutions (CMS) in San Jose in 2006, after learning the trade by working in his father’s shop. Eight years later, he leased the prior Fox Racing building in Morgan Hill, converging both his San Jose and Gilroy locations into one shop. Today, Tim has been in the sheet metal manufacturing industry for twenty years, having created a company with the manufacturing experts needed to deliver fabricated sheet metal products. The full service 50,000 sq. feet manufacturing facility provides Design Services, CNC Punching, Laser Cutting, Forming, Welding, In-House Powder Coating, and Assembly. CMS employs 40 people and in the future Tim has plans to provide classes and onsite job training to bolster the local industry talent and build a pipeline for future tradesman.

Jerry Ayala, owner of the Flower Cottage located on First St in Downtown Morgan Hill, is preparing for one of his store’s strongest days of the year- Valentine’s Day. After owning the store for 10 years, Jerry has found long stem roses, chocolates, and teddy bears to be the top sellers.

“In 2024, consumers are projected to spend approximately $25.8 billion on Valentine’s Day purchases,” reported the National Retail Federation. Top gifts include jewelry, an “evening out,” clothes, and flowers.

Business Spotlight: Medius Printing

Founded in 1984 by George Zaia, Medius Corp started as a family business in Milpitas and relocated to Morgan Hill in 2021. Serving a range of clients, they handle all facets of printing projects that include business cards, books, manuals, display banners, car wraps, boxes, etc.  The company is dedicated to sustainability, recycling over 270 tons of paper trim annually, using soy-based eco-friendly ink, and planting 500 trees every year since 2018. Medius employs 60 people and is currently hiring for two positions: Offset Printing Press Operator and Manager of Information Technology.

Business Spotlight: Pape Kenworth

Previously a NorCal Kenworth location, Papé Kenworth now serves the South Bay for primarily truck maintenance and parts, with an ancillary focus on truck sales. Serving a wide range of clients, they service all types of heavy-duty trucks including freight haulers, fleet vehicles, garbage trucks, and farm equipment. Papé Kenworth employs 24 people and is currently looking to hire three additional technicians.
