4-week Business Bootcamp

The SBDC and Dr. Pablo Romero, Latinx Small Business Owner and Faculty Fellow in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at California State University-Stanislaus, will lead a 4-week, 90-hour small business bootcamp during the month of April. Participants will receive foundational knowledge and comprehensive instruction on concept feasibility, licensing, business plan creation, budgeting, and more.

As we close out another busy year, the Economic Development team would like to wish all of our businesses a happy and prosperous holiday season. We are grateful for the community’s support of the Downtown Street Activations, the Buy Local Holiday Shopping Passport, and engagement during our business roundtable meetings. This final newsletter of the 2023 year captures just a few of our most recent accomplishments. We look forward to the New Year and our work ahead to support the City’s long-term fiscal sustainability and increase the number of local job opportunities for all Morgan Hill residents.

The Breakfast Club opens new location in Morgan Hill

In 2024, Morgan Hill will become one of four new locations for the quickly growing diner chain: The Breakfast Club. The restaurant will setup shop in the prior YOLKED location and will offer a creative breakfast, lunch, and brunch menu, in addition to a full bar and live music.

Pinnacle Exhibits an existing Morgan Hill employer is expanding and has leased the 85,456 square foot Building 1 at the Butterfield 5 Technology Park.  Pinnacle Exhibits creates activations, exhibits, environments, and events for businesses looking to build their brand and connect to their audience in live and interact ways.  Pinnacle has outgrown their existing space at 18420 Sutter Blvd and will be relocating their business operations when the tenant improvements are complete at the Butterfield 5 site.  Pinnacle is headquartered in Hillsborough, Oregon with operations in Los Angeles, Chicago, Raleigh-Durham and Morgan Hill. They employ approximately 60 full-time employees in Morgan Hill.

Startup applications have jumped steadily since 2020

Approximately 430,000 new employer identification numbers were applied for nationwide during the month of February. The number of business startups jumped in 2020, as employees left larger companies to focus on the development of their own companies. The number of February nationwide startups grew 1.9 percent over last month, with Western states leading the application growth at 8 percent compared to January. The largest gains in startups can be seen in the healthcare, wholesale trade, and professional services sectors. Over the next 8 quarters, the Census Bureau projects another 4.2 percent increase in U.S. business formations.

Silicon Valley Business Journal Highlights Downtown Development

In the Business Journal's July 25 “List” several of Morgan Hill’s largest non-retail employers were featured, largely a mix of manufacturers, construction firms, and high-tech companies. However, the Business Journal’s article on July 29 was centered solely around the pedestrian-friendly, tourist attracting, vibrant Downtown District.

“Morgan Hill's downtown strip —centered around Monterey Road between East Main Avenue and East Fifth Street — has added several new shops, eateries and a wine tasting room this year. At least one downtown establishment is planning to expand. Read more to learn about some of the newer venues you can visit……”
