The City of Morgan Hill with a growing population of 45,000 residents at the Southern end of Silicon Valley has fantastic Economic Development career opportunity. A City that is blessed with a wide range of industry cluster, land for development and strong goals for attracting investment is seeking veteran Economic Development talent to lead and deliver on an ambitious Economic workplan.
Morgan Hill has 6.5 million square feet of industrial space, approximately 2 million square feet of commercial and industrial development in the pipeline, and a phenomenal and growing Downtown. The community has been growing at a steady 2 percent rate and manages one of the most robust for ownership, income-restricted affordable programs in Northern California. With the City being surrounded by open space, parks, lakes, trails, wineries and farms, and a growing Downtown culinary scene, the City aspires to become a sports/recreation tourism destination.
The City of Morgan Hill is recruiting for either an Economic Development Manager/Economic Development Director to lead the City’s Economic Development efforts. The Economic Development Manager/Director position plays a critical function in the City’s leadership team and is responsible for the advancement of the City’s economic sustainability efforts, implementation of the City’s Economic Blueprint, assisting with project delivery of signature industrial and commercial projects as well as the implementation of the Downtown Specific Plan and Downtown Placemaking Investment and Tourism Strategies.
The City is seeking a seasoned Economic Development professional to serve in the Development Services Division under the leadership of the Assistant City Manager for Development Services. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in the administration of economic development programs and practices across multiple industries, including industrial, retail, downtown development, tourism, hospitality, and across multiple functions, including marketing, promotions, contract and project management, policy development, economic trends and analysis, land use and community development.
The City is seeking a strong leader with impressive critical thinking who can advance City policies and programs that support economic growth, job attraction and place-branding. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated track record of establishing strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including elected officials and appointed boards, governmental agencies, community partners and public in general. The City has a collaborative culture and city staff are referred to as city teammates. Likewise, the ideal candidate will be able to work with city leaders, residents, and businesses with a collaborative business-partner attitude.
This position will advance business support policies and zoning ordinances as well as administer consultant contracts and city business assistance programs such as the Impact Fee Freeze Agreements, Auto Dealer Tax Sharing Agreements, and Impact Fee Financing Agreements. Additionally, this position requires the ability to develop and analyze various data sets to assess trends, issues and opportunities affecting the business community and the City. Therefore, the ideal candidate should have an eye for detail and be technically savvy to administer programs and thoroughly communicate new concepts and possibilities.
Either position require a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in Economic Development or closely related field. The Director position is ideal for a seasoned professional and requires direct experience in leading economic development programs as a former Economic Development Manager, including 2 years at a manager level or higher, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered and has supervisory experience. A Master’s degree is highly desirable for either, the Manager or Director position.
