Buy Local Holiday Shopping Passport

The 2025 Buy Local Holiday Passport is here! This season, every purchase at participating Morgan Hill businesses earns you a sticker for your passport—and every sticker is a raffle entry for exciting prizes. Pick up a passport at any participating business, Chamber of Commerce, or City Hall. Then shop local, collect stickers, and turn it in by December 31 at 11:59 PM for your chance to win. The more you shop, the more stickers you have, thus chances to win, all while supporting local jobs, small businesses, and the community that makes Morgan Hill special. A rose is just a rose; except on Valentine's Day!

Consumers are expected to spend an average of $188 each on Valentine’s Day purchases this year, according to a survey published by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics. Top gifts include candy, flowers, cards, an evening out, and jewelry, which are all expected to result in $25.7B in sales.

FUN FACT: According to the Society of American Florists, 83% of flowers purchased for Valentine’s Day in 2022 were roses; 2/3 of which were red. Approximately 1B roses will be imported into the United States, mostly from South America, to support the high demand for Valentine’s Day.

Jerry Ayala, owner of the Flower Cottage located on First St in Downtown Morgan Hill, is preparing for one of his store’s strongest days of the year- Valentine’s Day. After owning the store for 10 years, Jerry has found long stem roses, chocolates, and teddy bears to be the top sellers.

“In 2024, consumers are projected to spend approximately $25.8 billion on Valentine’s Day purchases,” reported the National Retail Federation. Top gifts include jewelry, an “evening out,” clothes, and flowers.

Business Spotlight: Pape Kenworth

Previously a NorCal Kenworth location, Papé Kenworth now serves the South Bay for primarily truck maintenance and parts, with an ancillary focus on truck sales. Serving a wide range of clients, they service all types of heavy-duty trucks including freight haulers, fleet vehicles, garbage trucks, and farm equipment. Papé Kenworth employs 24 people and is currently looking to hire three additional technicians.

The City of Morgan Hill Economic Development Team, Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Association are collaborating on a Buy Local Campaign to support small businesses this holiday season. The 2023 Holiday Shopping Passport will encourage patronization of local small businesses, via in-store or online purchases, from December 1st-31st.

Shop artisan products at the Holiday Market

Shop homemade, custom, artisan products from 35+ home-based vendors at the Sidewalk Saturdays Holiday Market on December 16 from 9a.m-1p.m. BONUS- this event will include a hot cocoa bar by MoHI Farm, a bracelet making station by Luxe, and a photo booth by Memory Spot and bLoom inflatables. There might even be a special visit from a special someone!

Started in 2020 to support home-based and retail small businesses through the pandemic, Sidewalk Saturdays has morphed into a beloved community event embodying the Buy Local spirit. This popular maker’s market located on 3rd street in beautiful Downtown Morgan Hill, features a Spring and Fall season, highlighting 15-25 local makers, between the hours of 9a.m.-1p.m.
